In September 2019 the world’s best cyclists will come to Yorkshire for the UCI Road World Championships, the pinnacle event in the international road cycling calendar. The Championships will include a range of men’s and women’s races, across age groups from junior to elite, starting in different towns and cities throughout Yorkshire and each finishing in the main competition town of Harrogate.
It will be the first time that Britain has hosted the UCI Road World Championships since 1982 and Yorkshire is aiming to deliver the most inclusive, innovative and inspiring Road World Championships in the history of the UCI.

We’re looking for people to help out between the 16th – 29th September. That includes the event itself and also the week beforehand, to help with the some of the services that will start up a few days before the competition properly begins.
For some of the roles we’ll particularly be looking for volunteers who are available for several, or all, of the days of the Championships – so please do register for as many days as you are able to. The races will start in different towns and cities throughout Yorkshire and each finish in the main competition town of Harrogate.

Volunteering is a brilliant way to get a front row seat, up close to the action. We’ll give you all the training and information you’ll need - all we ask is that you bring your enthusiasm, dedication and passion. Previous volunteering experience is really useful but we love seeing new applications from people who’ve never done it before. And if this is your first time, what an event to be a part of!
WHAT TO DO NEXT We’re using an online system called Rosterfy to communicate with all The Yorkshire Team. After completing your registration you'll be directed to your own personal 'volunteer portal' where you can input any required information, amend your profile details and access updates from us. You will need to set up a password for the portal. Once you have registered you will receive an automated email. If it doesn't appear in your inbox, please check your junk folder.
TRAINING Training sessions for all roles will be held over the coming months. Dependent on your chosen role training will be held in the early summer months or a few days/weeks before the event and we look forward to seeing you there.
ROLES AVAILABLE There are a number of different roles available and these are split into five groups. These five groups are summarised below. On your application form you will be presented with a drop down menu of these five groups. Please let us know which group you would be willing to volunteer for. You can select up to two preferences. The Yorkshire Team will cover all regions of Yorkshire, please only select role preferences and dates you will be willing to volunteer and travel for. You can familiarise yourself with the routes here. We cannot guarantee to allocate you a particular role or date, but we will try to assign roles based on preferences wherever possible. For some of the roles we will give preference to volunteers who are available for several, or all, of the days of the Championships. This is so we can provide consistent and world class service – so please do register for as many days as you are able to!
ROUTE MARSHALS (YORKSHIRE WIDE) Flag and Whistle Supervisors Junction Supervisors Role: You will be designated a location on the race route, assisting in the safe passage of the riders and race vehicles. Unless you have been a Tour Maker in 2019 you will need to attend a half-day mandatory training session approximately two months prior to the Championships. You are expected to find your own way to your start position and will be outside for most of the event.
CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTS (YORKSHIRE WIDE) Spectator engagement Start town volunteers Role: You will be designated a location on the race route, assisting police, stewards and local authority teams to provide a positive experience for everyone watching the race.
Unless you have been a Tour Maker in 2019 you will need to attend a half-day mandatory training session approximately two months prior to the Championships. You are expected to find your own way to your start position and will be outside for the duration of the event.
TRANSPORT (YORKSHIRE WIDE) Fleet Team Leader Fleet drivers Role: The role involves driving official vehicles of the UCI Road World Championships outside the race course i.e. this may be to drive specific teams/VIPs, or to transfer team vehicles to race starts. You will need to attend a mandatory training session approximately one week prior to the Championships. You will be required to pick up and drop off vehicles in Harrogate but the role potentially see you drive around the county as and when required by the Fleet Team Leader. Previous fleet/event driving experience required and a full clean driving licence is also required.
CHAMPIONSHIP HUB (HARROGATE TOWN) Volunteer centre Accreditation centre Media Broadcast Back of house Hospitality Role: As a volunteer based in Harrogate you’ll be working in one of the office/facilities areas of the UCI Road World Championships to assist with the significant numbers of team members, media and staff generally operating in the area. Dependent on the area manager, you will have training a few days before the Championships or on your first day volunteering. You’ll be based mainly indoors in Harrogate.
SPORT, RACE & LOGISTICS (WITHIN THE HARROGATE AREA) Branding Interpreters Doping Control Chaperones Venue management (feed station, parking, access control) Event management (assisting with congress, artist liaison on main stage) Team liaison Economic Impact study Warehouse and Logistics Role: The most varied of the UCI Road World Championships roles, you’ll be based mainly in Harrogate town and experience a variety of jobs in your role. Some days you may be required to visit different starts/areas of the course dependent on your role but you’ll be briefed prior to this happening. You will have training from your area manager a few days before the Championships or on your first day volunteering.
You need to be 18 or over on the 1st September 2019. Volunteer recruitment will be open from January 2019 through to the late spring of 2019.

You’ll get an official Yorkshire Team kit for the event – most likely a top and a jacket – and there’ll also be some accreditation material to wear when you’re on duty. It helps everyone to know who you are.
