Event description

The 2018 Commonwealth Games (officially the XXI Commonwealth Games) is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between 4 and 15 April 2018. The Gold Coast will welcome 6,500 athletes and team officials from 71 nations and territories and visitors from all over the world, to compete and enjoy the biggest event Australia will host in more than a decade. There will be 1,000 technical officials, 15,000 volunteers and 1.5 million spectators taking part of the event. It is also a big media event. Fore example, throughout the Games a media contingent made up of more than 3 000 photographers and journalists will deliver close to 100,000 media stories and we will expect in the vicinity of 86 million website page views. GC2018 events are being hosted across Queensland. The majority of the venues are on the Gold Coast with other venues located in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.

Volunteering opportunities

The energy and enthusiasm of 15,000 volunteers to help deliver a great Commonwealth Games in 2018 is required. Dedicated, friendly volunteers are the cornerstones of all great events and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be no different. Within the 15,000 strong volunteer workforce many roles will need to be filled, from Spectator Services to Medical volunteers, from Transport to Uniform volunteers and many more. Applications to volunteer are now closed! Thanks to everyone who applied to be part of the greatest sporting spectacle that Australia will see this decade. In order to volunteer at GC2018 you must have submitted your complete application during the application window, open from 6th February until 20th March 2017.
